Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Rejuvenation

AFT skin rejuvenation offers a return to a more youthful appearance by improving and/or correcting uneven skin color, rough texture, sun damage, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, as well as the redness and flushing of rosacea. A series of AFT treatments involve short treatment times (45 minutes or less), are well tolerated without anesthesia, and with no down-time.
The difference between IPL and Laser Light is that a Laser light is monochromatic at a single wavelength, and IPL is light over broad spectrum of wavelengths. The IPL skin rejuvenation procedure emits a pulse light at wavelengths from 420nm to 1200nm. AFT is the next generation of multi-application pulsed light technology. Its breakthrough design converts unused UV light into the optimal spectrum used by each application, thereby making it the most efficient/effective system available. The unique shape of each AFT pulse limits peak power to only the therapeutic range, precisely heating its intended target with remarkably little or no skin damage or discomfort.
How does AFT treatment work?
An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the intended treatment area. Without damaging the outer layer of skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessel or dyspigmentation. This absorption creates heat which impairs the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or is absorbed by the body. Treatments can be given as frequently as every three weeks.
What does AFT photofacials treat?
Sun damage, Rosacea, Redness
For dilated vessels, as seen in patients with sun damage and rosacea, the light energy with high absorption by hemoglobin and oxyhemaglobin reaches the dermal capillary bed and selectively destroys the abnormal vessels. IPL is also effective in relieving the redness and flushing of the face and chest associated with rosacea.
Uneven Tone, Brown Spots, Age Spots, Melasma
For pigmentary abnormalities such as brown spots, age spots, melasma, as seen in patients with aging skin and sun damage, or due to pregnancy or menopause, the IPL energy is selectively absorbed by the melanin, which destroys the abnormally pigmented cells, resulting in a more even complexion.
Facial Telangiectasias, Vascular Lesions
IPL is a highly effective, relatively painless solution for removing benign vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias and hemangiomas.
Texture, Fine Lines, Wrinkles, Enlarged Pores, Scars
IPL also effectively improves the skin's texture, fine lines/wrinkles, acne scars, as well as reduces pore size, due to new collagen deposition in the dermis. A series of treatments with a particular wavelength (ST-Skin Tightening, also available) can lead to further smoothing of deeper wrinkles and firming of sagging skin.
Treatment
Preceding any treatments is an in-depth skin analysis and consultation, where all contraindications/precautions/pre-post care instructions will be discussed.
Treatments are well tolerated without anesthesia, take about 45 minutes to perform depending on treatment area. The treatment area will be prepped here prior to every treatment and protected after every treatment, so you may return to work if necessary!
It is important to know that desired results will require a series of treatments. And maintenance of achieved results will require follow-up treatments, home use of effective skin care products and avoidance of further sun damage by over-exposure to the sun and/or lack of adequate sun protection.
