Mesotherapy

What Is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy has not yet truly caught the public’s attention, yet it has been an effective treatment since 1952! However, that’s all set to change with celebrities such as Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston and Rihanna all reported as fans of Mesotherapy. Mesotherapy is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that uses carefully selected and very specific ingredients – such as vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid – to break down unwanted body fat and/or rejuvenate and strengthen your skin. First pioneered by French Doctor Michel Pistor, in the 1950s, it’s been a popular treatment in Europe for many years. Despite its long track record, the US is only just starting to catch on with Mesotherapy now gaining in popularity. The treatment involves a series of small injections, directed into the middle layer of the skin – the mesoderm. Various ingredients can be included in the injections, depending on the desired result. The injections can be carefully concocted to help to reduce fat, strengthen and firm skin or reduce the signs of aging.

What Mesotherapy Can Do For You?

Some of the things that Mesotherapy can help with include:

  • Cellulite reduction
  • Spot fat reduction
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Dull, lackluster skin
  • Loose skin
  • Acne scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation

How Mesotherapy Works.

These carefully concocted ingredients are micro-needled into the mesoderm – the middle layer of the skin. Here they can help to break down unwanted fat cells and encourage elimination – reducing body fat in problem areas. They also help to nourish and rejuvenate your skin, whilst stimulating the production of collagen and elastin – the cells that give your skin its elasticity and firmness.

What Ingredients Are Used In Mesotherapy?

The ingredients used will vary depending on the area you’re treating the results you’re looking to achieve and the preferences of the provider working with you.

Some common ingredients include:

Hyaluronic Acid – A naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate the skin, increase collagen production and fight free radicals and bacteria.

Amino Acids – Amino acids are organic compounds that create proteins. Amino acids such as L-Carnitine can be used in Mesotherapy to help transport fat cells and burn them off.

Vitamins & Minerals – Essential vitamins and minerals can help to keep your skin healthy, firm and strong. Reducing the signs of ageing and protecting your skin from free radical damage.

Enzymes – Enzymes such as Deoxycholic Acid can be included to help with the breakdown of fats.

Mesotherapy isn’t a one size fits all treatment. A good provider will listen to your concerns and suggest ingredients based on your skin, your goals and your problem areas.

What To Expect After A Mesotherapy Treatment

Mesotherapy is a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment, so you will be able to continue with your schedule as usual – no need to rest or take time off work if we are doing it for skin rejuvenation. Your skin may look slightly red and some people experience minor swelling and tenderness in the areas treated, but this usually resolves on its own within 24-48 hours.

If we are treating for spot fat reduction on the other hand, your body will use the nutrients to break down the fat. This process of fat cell destruction causes much more swelling and soreness in the treated area. Most people start to notice these symptoms within hours of treatment and can last up to 7 days.

How Long Do The Results Last?

Mesotherapy for skin rejuvenation results are long-lasting, up to 12-18 months, but they will eventually start to fade if you don’t keep up with the treatments. Mesotherapy for spot fat reduction is permanent, as long as you do not gain weight.

Most people find that a top up treatment every 1-3 months helps to keep their skin rejuvenated and prolongs the results from their Mesotherapy.

Not All Mesotherapy Is Created Equal

With any aesthetic procedure, it’s important to choose an aesthetic provider with the experience, knowledge and skills to ensure your treatment is a success. This is even more important with Mesotherapy. Because Mesotherapy is not a one size fits all treatment – the ingredients selected will be chosen specifically to suit your needs – it’s important that your provider has the knowledge to be able to select the best

ingredients for you. Here at CA SKIN AND BODY, our clinic was founded by Anna Hooley, a fully trained and highly experienced aesthetic nurse practitioner with nearly 40 years of experience in the medical field and 20 years in aesthetic medicine, providing mesotherapy to a wide variety of clients, since 2004.
